NDIS updates

What is changing, and what to check

Headlines don't always tell you what a change means for your plan. Start with the date, the official source and the questions worth asking.

Checked 23 October 2026. These are dated summaries. Follow the official source for later changes.

Announced 1 October 2026

Changes to some support budgets

The NDIA says reductions to some Social, Economic and Community Participation and Improved Daily Living Skills budgets apply as plans are created or reassessed from 1 October 2026, or renewed from 1 February 2027. Some supports are excluded.

This is not a statement that every part of your plan changes immediately. Read the notice for your own plan and ask your my NDIS contact which supports and dates apply to you.

The NDIA says this legislated change is not a reviewable decision. A significant and ongoing change in your circumstances may still be relevant to a plan-change request.

Read the NDIA announcement and exclusions.

What to do next

Keep the written notice with your plan. Before changing bookings, check the relevant funding period and agreed costs with your coordinator or plan manager. Our preparation worksheet gives you somewhere to organise questions.

Announcement published 7 September 2026

A new coordination service is announced for July 2028

The Australian Government has announced a commissioned NDIS support coordination and connection service from 1 July 2028. The September consultation concerned its proposed design and closed on 2 October 2026.

The announcement is about a future service. It does not tell you to cancel your current coordinator or assume your present agreement has ended. Check your own plan and any direct advice from the NDIA.

Read the official coordination announcement.

What to ask now

If a provider suggests changing your current support because of this announcement, ask which published rule or direct instruction applies to your plan. Our coordination guide explains the current role.

Need to talk through a letter or a next step? Ask us to contact you. Keep private plan and health details out of the initial enquiry.
